Avenir Dani, the Shkodran goalkeeper of three generations of “Vllaznia”!
Born and raised as an athlete in Shkodër, Avenir Dani extended his career across a period that encompassed around three generations of “Vllaznia” players. A goalkeeper who moved from one generation to another, always wearing the same colors: red and blue.
During this period he achieved important successes, including 5 trophies: two Championships, two Republic Cups and one Super Cup, won between his “Vllaznia” and “Partizani”!
His first contact with the ball, in fact, was not in football. It was volleyball. Later, the ball moved from the volleyball net to the football goalmouth and Dani began his journey as a goalkeeper through “Vllaznia’s” youth teams: the pre-youth, youth and then the “Shpresa” team.
He is considered a discovery of coach Halil Puka, who saw in Avenir Dani the talent and promising qualities for the Shkodran goal.
In fact, his initial formation as a volleyball player had given Dani what a goalkeeper needs more than anything else: intuition, coordination and quick reflexes. Qualities that did not go unnoticed by Halil Puka. A great contribution to his development would also come from former “Vllaznia” goalkeeper and “Shpresa” coach, Isa Sukaj.
Soon after this, he joined the first team, even though “Vllaznia” already had Gjergji Kusha and Genc Boshnjaku in goal.
But very soon it would also be Avenir Dani’s turn to defend the colors of “Vllaznia”. The Shkodran side was struggling to find a consistent goalkeeper, and Dani was ready to knock hard on the door of the first team.
In 1986 came his debut against “Naftëtari”. A new goal had opened up before him and, from that moment on, Dani would no longer be simply the next goalkeeper. He would become one of the important guardians of “Vllaznia”.
From 1986 to 1993 he would be one of the key parts of the team.
1991–1992: Championship title with “Vllaznia”!
A season that would remain long in his memory and in that of Shkodër. Avenir Dani had managed to lay his hands on one of the most precious trophies of his career: the Championship title with the red-and-blue shirt.
Then came another chapter. Greece. “AEK”.
During that period, enjoying good form, Dani was called up to the Albanian National Team. For a goalkeeper, there is no greater stage than the goal of the national team. And for Dani, this was the peak of a career that had begun on the fields of Shkodër.
His debut match was against Spain, as a substitute for Strakosha. But the match in which goalkeeper Dani would stand out was the one against Ireland, only three days after Spain.
The Irish press described him as the best player of the match, while according to the statistics he made 14 decisive interventions.
Fourteen times his hands stood between the ball and the net. Fourteen times the Albanian goal found salvation in the reflexes, courage and instinct of the Shkodran guardian.
His performance also attracted the attention of the coach of “Blackburn” in the Premier League, who invited him for a trial. But for Dani, seeing the extraordinary level of competition, continuing his career in England would have been a very difficult challenge.
“Partizani” has always kept its door open to Shkodran players.
After returning to Albania, Avenir Dani would defend the colors of “Partizani”, winning one Championship title and one Super Cup.
In 1994 came his return to Shkodër, to “Vllaznia”, and one year later, in 1995, Dani retired from football.
But a true goalkeeper never completely leaves the goal.
His career continued in the role of coach, first with “Vllaznia’s” youth teams and later with the senior team, winning the Championship title in the 2000–2001 season.
From the hands that had stopped the balls in the red-and-blue goal, he was now shaping the hands of the new generation.
